Green Thrive Shade House Vegetable Garden & Mini Fruit Farm is a collaboration of the Rotary Club of Garden City and the Rotary District 7030 aimed at reducing the “Food Bill” of the Cheshire Homes, to encourage healthy eating habits of the residents, and allow them to experience and appreciate vegetables and fruits from the ‘seed to the table’ – becoming “Ambassadors of Eating Healthy”. The project commenced February 7, 2021, where Rotarians and residents in a shoe planting exercise experienced the miracle of planting a seed or a seedling and seeing it evolve to a plant. It was formally launched on June 5, 2021 to coincide with ‘World Environment Day 2021’ – under the theme “Ecosystem Restoration The Cheshire Homes is situated on the East Coast Demerara, approximately 22 miles from the city Georgetown was built in 1972 and is managed by a committee of volunteers and is supported by the Government of Guyana, Private Individuals and many other Organizations, including Rotary.
